Oil Space Heater

What do you do when it’s freezing downstairs and warm upstairs? Three words, oil space heater. I put one of these in my basement, it’s amazing, it will heat a room in no time at all, and it saves money on the gas bill! Why wouldn’t everyone have one…or two? Not to mention an oil space heater is going to last more than just one winter! Put one of these bad boys out in a shed, barn, garage, or pretty much anywhere else you could possibly want to keep warm. These are great to have if you’re planning on entertaining a crowd anywhere outdoors in the fall or even winter. Some people put these to good use too by keeping certain objects from getting too cold in the winter. If you’re wondering, yes they make them big enough to heat a very large area, but can cost all the way up to $65,000! This particular type of space heater is more for large projects and commercial use.

I used an oil space heater a few years ago in my bathroom as a college student because it was the only room in the house that wasn’t warm. Not only did the oil space heater save us money on our gas bill, but we didn’t use all the hot water up taking blistering hot showers to compensate for the freezing cold bathroom.

There’s safety precautions you want to take with an oil space heater. Steer from putting an oil space heater outside, or anywhere close to anything flammable, especially liquids. If you’re considering putting an oil space heater in a bathroom, make sure to put the oil space heater in a safe place, away from open water, and preferably in a bathroom not used by children. When buying an oil space heater and taking safety into consideration, try to buy a unit that isn’t going to tip over as easily as others. However, with certain brands, like Delonghi, the oil space heater will shut off if it’s knocked over, which is a very good feature to have. Lastly, do not run the power cord under carpet.

Since we still have the heat on in our house, the oil space heater has that much more effect working with the central heating system. However, using an oil space heater by itself will heat a room as big as 12×14 ft. Try to buy an oil space heater with different temperature settings, the more the better, as you’ll be able to customize the room temperature more to your desire. If even after all this you’re rich, and not an environmentalist, why not buy a couple to put in storage in case the furnace breaks down one night? What better thing to have on hand?
